DIRECTOR/ Kelly Garnett

OUTLINE OF AUDIENCE:
The audience I wont is secondary school children, because bullying occurs mostly in schools.

OUTLINE OF STORY

My video is about bullying. It starts with a girl in her bed, and her alarm goes off for her to get up and get ready for school. You see her in the mirror putting her make up on and her school uniform, she puts her school books in her bag and goes downstairs to make her lunch. Then you see her walk out the front door.
The next shot is that she runs through the door and up the stairs and into her room, throws her bag down and looks in the mirror she has cuts bleeding all over her face and she cries. Next you see her writing a letter but you don’t know what it is, then you here a chair bang on the floor and a pear of legs hanging .

Audience, and audience interpretation of the work

When we watched koyaanisaqasi a lot of the group had the same views but some of them had different views of the film, some thought it was about global warming and others thought it was about the war and the effects of the war. When we watched Doll face the whole group had the same view of the film, we all thought it was about people trying to be something there not. When we watched Gisele Kerosene we all had different views on it, a lot of use found it confusing the other half found it funny.
I don’t think that it matters that the group have different interpretation of a film.
the artist of the video has there own message to send across, and the audience will have another view of it that may no be the same, but that shouldnt matter, people have there own veiws on different work.

1 discuss both past and current artists and works

Koyaanisqasi and Gisele Kerosene have a lot of similarities, as they were made around the same sort of time. They were both made in the 80s, which means the technology in that time period was the same. Unlike the girl chewing gum, which was made in the 70s.
Koyaanisqasi use music to get the message across, it has no spoken dialog, which is the same as Gisele Kerosene, but in girl chewing gum there is spoken dialog throughout the film, and there is no music. Koyaanisqasi uses time-lapse photography in most of the film, Gisele Kerosene also uses time-lapse photography throughout the whole film as well. But girl chewing Gum didn’t have any of this technology, as it wasn’t available then, they had simple camera shots. Koyaanisqasi has a simple narrative structure, Gisele Kerosene also has a simple narrative structure.
But girl chewing gum has more of a complex narrative structure. Girl chewing gun is in black and white and koyaanisqasi and Gisele Kerosene is in colour. koyaaniqasi and girl chewing gum are both ture life experience, but if you put koyaanisqasi next to Doll face you an see the difference in technology as they were made years apart, doll face is computer generated, it is also edited a lot and koyaanisqasi is made from life situation and has no computer generated technology.

5 how these works might inspire your own work.

I have seen a few videos while I have been doing media but the one that has really inspired me is doll face. It’s the creativity that has gone into the video has inspired to do my video like that, I cant do the robotic side of it but the meaning of the video I could use. The fact that everyone tries to be something there not and it will never happen no matter how much they wont it to. I think that the video makes a good point and it is true, every wants to be someone and they will do anything possible to achieve it, and I wont to create a video that explains that in more detail.
my video will be about the affects of bullying, i wont to use time laps photography in a bit of the video and a bit of slow motion aswell. i think that it will make the video more affective to he audience.

3. Narrative and non-narrative structures (100 Words)

Koyaanisqasi has a simple narrative structure, so there is a beginning, middle and a end. At the beginning you see a war and destruction, in the middle you see the rubble from where the buildings have fallen down, and at the end you see them moving on and getting over what has happened because that is what man kind does. You see them making cloths in the factories, people getting on the trains. But then the shuttle image comes and the balance gets thrown back.
Gisele Kerosene also has a simple narrative structure. There is a beginning, middle and a end. At the beginning the witches are worshiping a bird like statue and another witch comes along and steals it, in the middle they are chasing the other witch to get the statue back, and at the end the witches get the statue back. But the video ’The weather project’ is a non narrative, it is quite complex, it is just a bunch of people standing and laying on the floor, and the camra just slowly pans up to a image of the sun. If you changed the order of koyaanisqasi narrative structure the film would have a different meanng and it wouldnt have the same effect, but if you gave 1001 nights a different narrative structure it wouldnt change, the meaning will still be the same as the narrative structure is quite complex already.

2. The use of technology and techniques and styles (100 Words)

the film koyaanisqasi uses extensive time lapse photography the same as Gisele Kerosene. Time lapse is the speeding up of a image, koyaanisqasi also uses slow motion photography, which slows down an image. This makes the difference between the different types of physical motion, e.g. in the first part of koyaanisqasi there is the image of clouds moving across the sky(sped up) you also see the image of the ocean waves moving (slowed down) and this shows you the similar movements between the natural forces. This type of technique is also uesed in Gisele Kerosene.
Time lapse photography is used throughout the whole film, the film also uses stop motion which makes an an object appear to move on its own, like in the film it is the broomsticks. the person on the broomsticks jump into the air and they take a photograph then move a bit and jump again and take another photograph. This creates the illsion of movement, when all the frames are put together and played as a continuous sequence. This film is very edited, The soundtrack for Gisele Kerosene is very much like a cartoon not liike koyaanisqasi which is very futuristic.
Koyaanisqasi and Gisele Kerosene were made around the same sort of time, Koyaanisqasi was amde in 1982 and Gisele Kerosene was made in 1989, there is only seven years difference, but in that seven year technology has changed in many different ways, and you can see that in these films.
